Serve on Your FSA County Committee
Local farmers decide how USDA farm programs run in their county. USDA encourages veterans to vote and to run.
What It Is
- Every Farm Service Agency county office has an elected county committee of local farmers. More than 7,700 people serve nationwide.
- Committees help decide how disaster recovery, conservation, commodity, and price support programs are delivered locally, and weigh in on county office hiring.
- Members serve three-year terms. Elections happen each year in some areas of each county.
Why Veterans Should Get Involved
- Veterans bring leadership experience that committees need, and a veteran on the committee helps other veterans get a fair shake.
- If you take part in an FSA program, you can vote. If you live in an area up for election, you can run.
2026 Election Timeline
- Ballots are mailed to eligible voters in early November 2026. If yours doesn’t come, pick one up at your FSA office.
- The last day to return your ballot is December 7, 2026.
- New members take office on January 1, 2027.
- Want to run next year? Nominations usually open in mid-June and close in early August. You’ll need form FSA-669A.
