NY State Vegetable Growers Association

The New York State Vegetable Growers Association (NYSVGA) is one of the oldest farm organizations in the state, founded in 1911. It serves commercial vegetable growers who sell to fresh markets, put crops into storage, or grow for processors.

Who it’s for

Farmers growing vegetables as a business, from a few acres of market crops to large wholesale operations. A 15-member board of growers representing the state’s major vegetable crops guides the association, so its priorities come straight from people doing the work.

What it offers

  • Empire State Producers Expo: the association’s big annual winter event, held in January, with educational sessions on crop production, pest management, marketing, and farm business, plus a trade show. The 2027 Expo and Becker Forum is set for January 11 to 14 in Geneva, NY.
  • Grower network: a direct connection to experienced vegetable farmers across New York who have dealt with the same weather, pests, and market questions you’re facing.
  • Membership: members support the association’s work for the vegetable industry and stay informed about events and industry news.

How veteran farmers can use it

Vegetables are one of the more accessible ways to start farming. You can begin on a small piece of land and sell directly through farmers markets, farm stands, or CSAs. Moving from a large garden to a real business is where the association’s education and network help most, especially on pest management, food safety, and pricing.
